Mamãe quiso saber hace bastante, qué tipo de caramelos me gustan. En navidad solemos comer bastantes dulces en mi tierra y por eso ésta es una buena época para contestar la pregunta. De todos modos les confieso que estas dulces las comí antes de la navidad ya. Estas fiestas las he dedicado para comer chocolate y nueces, los cuales son mis favoritos de verdad.

Mamãe asked me some weeks ago for the candies I like to eat. In my country we are used to eat lots of candies in Christmas time so that this is a good period for responding the question. Anyway I confess that I ate these candies already before Christmas. These days I've dedicated for eating chocolate and nuts, my real favorites.





Estas dulces me las compré en Laponia. Prefiero chocolate y regaliz en sus diferentes formas. Los de las imágenes, sobre todo.

I bought these candies in Lapland. I prefer sweets made of chocolate and licorice. In the pictures you can see the best of all.




Yo también quería saber qué dulces le gustan a mi amiga que me visitó hace dos semanas. Nos compramos caramelos y le pedí que eligiera sus favoritos. Mi amiga es una artista, está estudiando para ser profesora en artes. Yo no sé si el criterio con que escogió sus caramelitos fue el sabor o la apariencia...

I, too, wanted to know which candies my friend likes the most. She visited me two weeks ago and we bought some sweets so that she could choose the best out of them. My friend is an artist, she is studying to be an art teacher. I don't know if she used the taste or the looks of the candies as a criterion when choosing her favorites...

Otro mundo / Another world

Una caminata, un autobús, tres trenes, viajecito en carro y un agujero en el hielo.

Boletos de viaje en sueco, claro que sí. Estoy viviendo en un país bilingüe.

He tratado de aprender a hallar alegría en cosas simples y cotidianas. El viajar es cosa bastante cotidiano para mí. Y sí, ya estaba esperando este viajecito de nueve horas por bastantes semanas.

A hike, a bus, three trains, a trip in a car, and a hole in the ice.

Train tickets in Swedish, of course. I'm living in a bilingual country.

I've been learning to find joy in simple, everyday things. Travelling is that kind of quotidian thing for me. And yes, for quite many weeks have I already been waiting for this nine-hour-long trip.














Esta Finlandia central estaba bastante oscura cuando llegué. Hemos tenido grados sobre cero y casi toda la nieve se había derretido. En esta mañana tuvimos más nieve, y mi hermana se fue a esquiar. Yo me quedé en casa, disfrutando mi tiempo libre y mi cámara también, un poco.


Middle Finland was quite dark when I arrived here. We've had some plus degrees and almost all the snow had melted away. This morning we got more snow, and my sister went to ski. I stayed at home, enjoying the time without obligations and my camera as well.

Sí sí, estoy estudiando / Yes, I'm studying all the time

Hace tres años experimenté mi primera navidad en el extranjero. Lo que no me gustó en la navidad de Colombia fue la falta de nieve y los villancicos que según mi parecer no tenían nada que ver con la navidad.

En este diciembre he escuchado muchos villancicos latinoamericanos y visto fotos de Colombia. Las dos cosas me han hecho sentir que la navidad está muy cerca ya. ¿Será que haya perdido mi sensatez?






















I experienced my first Christmas in a foreign country three years ago. I didn't get to the mood because there were no snow in Colombia, and the carols had nothing to do with Christmas, in my opinion.

This December I've been listening to many Latin American Christmas carols and I've seen photos from Colombia. Both things have made me feel that the Christmas is really about to begin. I wonder if I've lost my discernment!

Habrá tiempo para dormir en el bús / I'll have time for sleeping in the bus

...pero todavía falta más de una semana antes de que pueda subirme en él. Les cuento que ya estoy esperando mis vacaciones.

...but there is still more than a week to go before I can take it. I'm already waiting for my holiday.

Jueves / Thursday

Días libres he tenido. Semanas libres. Para estudiar, claro.

Pero también para limpiar, trabajar en la escuela especial,
conectarme con amigos lejanos,
hacer comida y galletas de jengibre, ensayar música,
servir en la iglesia, conseguir un sofá (es verdad que pesa),
hacer compras,
disfrutar el tiempo libre y el nuevo sofá (con libros de examen y algo para comer, ¡claro!),
trasnocharme y tener pesadillas de no despertarme a tiempo para ir a trabajo,
conocer gente nueva
y aprender a colaborar con ellos.

Todavía no sé si tengo prisa o falta de hacer. Pero con mucha gana seguiré teniendo estas semanas libres.


I've had free days. Free weeks. For my studies, of course.

But also for cleaning, working in the special school,
connecting distant friends,
preparing food and gingerbreads, rehearsing music,
serving in the church, buying a sofa (that's really heavy),
going to the shop,
enjoying the free time and the new sofa (of course with course books and something to eat),
staying up late and having nightmares of oversleeping,
getting to know new people
and learning to collaborate with them.

I don't know yet if I'm busy or with nothing to do. But I'll gladly continue having these free weeks.
