Mamãe asked me some weeks ago for the candies I like to eat. In my country we are used to eat lots of candies in Christmas time so that this is a good period for responding the question. Anyway I confess that I ate these candies already before Christmas. These days I've dedicated for eating chocolate and nuts, my real favorites.

I bought these candies in Lapland. I prefer sweets made of chocolate and licorice. In the pictures you can see the best of all.

I, too, wanted to know which candies my friend likes the most. She visited me two weeks ago and we bought some sweets so that she could choose the best out of them. My friend is an artist, she is studying to be an art teacher. I don't know if she used the taste or the looks of the candies as a criterion when choosing her favorites...

Por ahora me gusta Jyväskylä / I'm loving Jyväskylä for now

The shop I found today is called Oasis. How true... Heh, please forgive me, all the Finns who aren't spending the Christmas in Finland. I know you are missing other kind of things...

Otro mundo / Another world

A hike, a bus, three trains, a trip in a car, and a hole in the ice.

Train tickets in Swedish, of course. I'm living in a bilingual country.

I've been learning to find joy in simple, everyday things. Travelling is that kind of quotidian thing for me. And yes, for quite many weeks have I already been waiting for this nine-hour-long trip.

Middle Finland was quite dark when I arrived here. We've had some plus degrees and almost all the snow had melted away. This morning we got more snow, and my sister went to ski. I stayed at home, enjoying the time without obligations and my camera as well.

Sí sí, estoy estudiando / Yes, I'm studying all the time

I experienced my first Christmas in a foreign country three years ago. I didn't get to the mood because there were no snow in Colombia, and the carols had nothing to do with Christmas, in my opinion.

This December I've been listening to many Latin American Christmas carols and I've seen photos from Colombia. Both things have made me feel that the Christmas is really about to begin. I wonder if I've lost my discernment!

Habrá tiempo para dormir en el bús / I'll have time for sleeping in the bus

...but there is still more than a week to go before I can take it. I'm already waiting for my holiday.

See the joy in it / Míralo con alegría

Thank you Terhi for visiting and bringing me joy.

I'm gonna go to sleep now, I got accustomed to be so lazy.

Jueves / Thursday

Días libres he tenido. Semanas libres.

Free weeks. For my studies, of course.

But also for cleaning, working in the special school,
connecting distant friends,
preparing food and gingerbreads, rehearsing music,
serving in the church, buying a sofa (that's really heavy),
going to the shop,
enjoying the free time and the new sofa (of course with course books and something to eat),
staying up late and having nightmares of oversleeping,
getting to know new people
and learning to collaborate with them.

I don't know yet if I'm busy or with nothing to do. But I'll gladly continue having these free weeks.

¿Por qué no puedo dormir? / Why I cannot sleep?

Tanta gente. Tantos recuerdos.
Tantos planes, tantos sueños para el futuro.

Lugares, pensamientos, cosas que han sucedido.
Sí, son muchos. Al pensar en ellos suelo confundirme.

Nostalgia, añoranza.
Gozo, gratitud.
Esperanza.

So many people. So many memories.
So many plans, so many dreams for the future.

Places, thoughts, things happened.
Yes, there are lots of them. When thinking on them I use to get confused.

Nostalgia, longing.
Joy, thankfulness.
Hope.

Oda para los carteros / Ode for the mailmen

Me encanta mi balcón y mi vida descalza.

I want everybody to stop talking about today's youth that isn't worth for anything, that has no strength nor will for anything. Just look at the mailmen for example, and look at me.

Couple of weeks ago it was cold here and the streets were really icy. As I was returning by bike from the university, I met a mailwoman who greeted me excited of the fact that there was other one biking in that terrible weather as well. Today I didn't go to the university, but the mailmen do have been working. The heroe in the photoes visited our block of flats already before the snowplow.

I'll give you a proof of my courage. The camera and the photoes of the day cannot wait. The socks and the shoes can do it well. I love my balcony and my barefooted life.

In addition, I love the view from my window. I love also my today's meal (the photo above, with the Spanish text), both the concrete and the spiritual one. Life is good and the only thing I have to do is to live it.

De verdad ¿es tan difícil? / Is it really so difficult?

I found a Dominican (I think so) song in the Internet and today I started to make sheet music out of it. I've proceeded half a bar already and I'm asking myself if I really want to continue or should I give up. I think I should practice this kind of things a bit more frequently.

La foto del día / The photo of the day

Today I didn't drink my morning coffee outside in the balcony. But the snow is beautiful, isn't it?

Todos quieren mudarse a Suecia / All the people want to live in Sweden

A mí me gusta viajar, verdad. ¿Qué más uno puede anhelar?

Sweden is my ethnic shop.

Now that I'm not living in the capital city, it is harder for me to find food. I mean beans, corn meal, okra etc. Food that all the Latin Americans need in surviving.

It's so great that I live on the border. Sweden is so different. Things I need in my life are sold in Swedish supermarkets. What's more, when I go to those supermarkets I go to a foreign country as well, almost without noticing it. Imagine it! I really love travelling. What else can I desire?

Prejuiciada, ¿yo? / Prejudiced, me?

No me gustan mujeres cantantes.

¡Cómo me sacrifiqué!

Enfatizando: algunas.

I don't like female singers. Well, maybe in person I could like them, but I'm saying that I do not listen to their music. Well, just now I'm doing it. Yesterday I did it as well. I don't know myself anymore.

Yesterday I didn't want to study so I found myself looking for Latin American music. I found quite many female singers as well. I confess it: there are also good ones among them.

I remembered my friend who lent me some of her CDs while I was studying Spanish. The singer was a woman, and the music had that Latin style in it I really disliked. But oh well, I was listening to it just in order to learn the language. That self-sacrificing was I! After that I travelled to Colombia and you know the further part of the story.

I realized yesterday that I'm able to listen not only to Latin music, but to some female singers as well.

To emphasize: some.

Repito: recibo visitantes.

We have lots of ice here in Finland and it is cold as well. But always when coming home, I love the sensation in my defrosting fingers. I'm not able to explain it, you have to experience it yourself. I repeat: I receive visitors.

Raíces e identidad II / Roots and identity II

Aquel viaje me enseñó mucho.

He leído libros, he visto películas, he hablado con gente.

We've got snow here in my home town. It is cold and the moon is full. I would like to take my camera out more often. I want to be outside and take photoes. The problem is that there are so few hours in a day, so few days in a week.

Yesterday I had planned to study all the day. In the morning I learnt that there was a Scandinavian film festival in the neighbouring town. I packed my exam book and took a bus. That trip taught me a lot. I would had learnt much less if I'd stayed at home with my book.

Yesterday we were shown two films. One from Iceland, another from Norway. And I came up asking myself why on earth do I know more about more distant things. I've read books, I've seen movies, I've talked with people. I know that Latin America's indigenous people have been oppressed. I know that their lands have been taken away, that they haven't been listened to nor their rights have been considered. And of course I know that the same thing happened here in the north of Scandinavia, of my home region, as well. But I hadn't thought about that. In the school they didn't tell me about the revolt the people of Lapland had to carry out one hundred and fifty years ago. They didn't tell me what happened in Kautokeino, for example. I'd had no idea about the fact that the descendants of the executed ones were allowed to bury their heroes only ten years ago, in the 90s. Yesterday I learnt something about that, and I want to know more. It is good that there is memory - books at least - about the secrets of my region. You have only to know they exist.

But why am I writing this? Would I do it if I had not first learnt something about my America?

Me dieron trabajo / I've got a job

I had already missed the drool. I'm working again with mentally challenged people. I'm continuing my studies but I love the possibility to keep in contact with the drool and life's other realities. Of course with those of the photo as well.

¡Huomenta! dicen los finlandeses / The Finns say Huomenta!

Llueve.
Llueve demasiado.

Tan rico.
¿Quién quiso mudarse a Finlandia?

It is raining.
It is rainining too much.
I have to go to the school, my bike is already waiting for me.

In half an hour I'll be in the school, wet and covered by mud. Fabulous!
Who wanted to move to Finland?
